The National People's Power (NPP) today (25) announced the setting up of an election monitoring centre, to be led by retired senior DIG Gamini Nawaratne, a former police chief in charge of elections.
Other members of this centre are retired SDIGs Ravi Seneviratne and J.A.K. Mark and former ministry secretary Tissa Warnasuriya.
A media briefing was held by members of the NPP election monitoring centre, where they stressed that it will function independently.
It will mediate in legal issues relating to elections across all 24 districts to ensure free and fair voting rights of the people, they stressed.
