The independent Tamil presidential candidate from the north launched his campaign from Mullaitivu on 18 August.
P. Ariyanethran told the gathering that he intends through his candidacy to show to the government and the world that successive presidents had failed to resolve issues of his community.
“The ethnic issue in the northeast has not been resolved yet. We voted for eight past presidents. All of them deceived us. We are not prepared to be deceived at this election,” he said.
Ariyanethran said that he would be a symbol to show to all that Tamils have lost their rights.
Leaders of TELO and PLOTE attended the event, while Ariyanethran’s ITAK party is still undecided over the presidential election.
