This is Sri Lanka's best performance ever at this games, the previous best being placed sixth in Colombo in 2002.
Sri Lankans set two Asian records as well.
Tharushi Karunarathna set a new Asian and national record in the women’s 800 metres.
The 19-year-old clocked two minutes and 06 seconds to clinch gold.
Compatriot Gayanthika Abeyrathna took bronze with a timing of 2:03:25.
Sri Lanka won another gold in the men’s 400 X 4 event and also set a new Asian mark of three minutes and 1.56 seconds ahead of India and Qatar.
The quartet comprised Aruna Darshana, Rajitha Rajakaruna, Pabasara Niku and Kalinga Kumara.
In the women’s event, Sri Lanka finished with silver.
