Legendary bowler Muttiah Muralitharan has attributed the prevailing sorry state of cricket in Sri Lanka to a contest for captaincy of the national team.
He made the claim in a speech as the chief guest at the under-19 school cricket awards presentation last night (18).
The ceremony was organized by Sri Lanka Cricket and School Cricket Association at the BMICH in Colombo.
Meanwhile, consultant coach to the national team Mahela Jayawardena has returned home from the ongoing World Cup in India citing a personal reason.
He is expected to rejoin the team in time for the game against England.
