The four Sri Lankans who took part in the UAE Athletics Grand Prix 2024 in Dubai last night (03) have shown below-par performances.
All recorded timings far short of the qualifications for the Paris Olympics.
Yupun Abeykoon was placed third in men’s 100 m, with a time of 10.08 seconds.
The minimum qualification for the Olympics is 10 sec. and he has a best timing of 9.96 sec.
In women’s 400 m, Nadeesha Ramanayake timed 52.51 sec. to win second place.
For Olympics qualification, she should have had a timing of below 50.95.
Tharushi Karunaratne had to withdraw from the women’s 800 m after suffering an injury.
Gayanthika Abeyratne, who competed in the same event, finished last.
