Tributes have been paid to more than 55 Tamil civilians killed by Indian peacekeepers in Jaffna in October 1987.
Relatives were among those who gathered for the commemoration near the entrance to Hindu College in Kokuvil, the very place where the mass murders took place.
In a retaliation to the killing of its soldiers by the LTTE, the IPKF waged several attacks on civilians during the month of October 35 years ago.
In one attack, they arrived in armoured tanks at the school, where civilians had taken refuge, and carried out the killings.
The victims’ bodies were buried in the school’s playground.
