The High Court Judges Association is among six parties that have filed petitions that seek a declaration that the inland revenue amendment bill is unconstitutional.
The bill proposes the monthly income limit for which a person has to pay income tax to be reduced from Rs. 250,000 to Rs. 100,000.
Meanwhile, government doctors are urging the government to withdraw the amendment.
Government Medical Officers' Association spokesman Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe has told the media that the amendment would bring only trouble for doctors and other professionals.
